CVRTC is an all-volunteer, non-profit, charitable corporation currently developing the 11-mile
Cumberland Valley Trail, from Shippensburg to Newville, in Cumberland
County PA. Learn more About CVRTC

Why is the the trail sometimes closed at the Newville trailhead? The entire trail is not closed. Only the half-mile paved
section of the trail at the Newville trailhead is closed.
The rest of the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail remains open from
dawn-to-dusk all year long even when you see the closed sign. You
may access the open sections of the trail via the grassy strip of land
on the north side (the Newville side) of the pavement. CLICK HERE for more
information.

 |
Please help us find out who is using the
trail by completing a survey. CLICK HERE to complete the survey online.
Smart phone users can access a friendlier formatted survey HERE.
Paper surveys will be available at the Shippensburg and Newville trailheads.

CVRTC puts on a series of
fundraising events through out the year.
The events include the Race, Run, Ride & Ramble
on April 21, the ArtSHIP 10K on June
1, and the Fall Down on the Trail in October.
All proceeds from the events will benefit the
CVRTC and will be used for maintaining the current trail along with extending
the trail into Shippensburg and Carlisle
Without these fundraising events CVRTC would not be able to
provide the community with this wonderful asset. Come out
and support the trail by participating in one of our events. |
 |
Now that the Cumberland Valley Rail -Trail is mostly complete, we must turn our attention the the care and
maintenance of the trail. CVRTC depends on local membership dues and contributions to pay for the maintenance of
the trail. We receive no funding from the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy (RTC), or from any government entity. CVRTC also
depends on volunteers to provide all the labor. Consider adopting a section of the trail,
arranging a work day with your group or coming as an individual to one of our a work days. If you would
like to be notified of future work days or if you or your group would like to schedule you own work day please
contact us at info@cvrtc.org

Vern Gauthier sent us a list of birds seen on
the trial between Newville and Oakville over the last 3 years. A
total of 32 of the birds were new to our list. Several new birds
were spotted by Dave C. We now have a total of 97 different
birds seen along the trail. Help us catalog the Flora and Fauna found along the trail by
submitting what you see. |

It has been our good fortune to have several
eagle scout projects completed or underway along the rail-trail.
Since we are frequently asked for ideas for more projects, we decided to
start a list of ideas and post them here. |
